  • When a commander is put into the command zone its owner gains three (3) exhaustion for that commander.
    • Exhaustion is cumulative for each commander. If a player already has exhaustion counters for a commander and they should gain more, then their final total is the number of exhaustion they currently have for that commander plus three (3).
  • If a player has multiple commanders their exhaustion is tracked separately among them.
  • At the beginning of each player’s upkeep, for each commander they own, one exhaustion for that commander is removed from that commander.
    • An exhaustion is removed regardless of if the commander is in the command zone or not.
  • Commanders cost {1} (one generic mana) more for each exhaustion their owner is tracking for them.
  • Exhaustion can be increased by effects like proliferation, but cannot generally be removed unless explicitly specified.
