New page

If a phase or step is not included in this section then there are no special rules or actions required for that phase or step.

== Beginning Phase ==

* The beginning phase has an additional step before the Untap Step called the “Focus Step”.`

== Focus Step ==

* The boss will independently determine which opponent to focus until its next turn via dice roll.
* The boss will prefer its focused player when choosing targets for all spells and abilities it controls.
* No player receives priority during this step.

== Draw Step ==

* The boss draws a number of cards as specified by their raid rules.
* Cards drawn after this step will be kept in the boss’s hand until they are played on a future turn.

== Main Phase ==

* The boss plays all cards in their hand which have existed there since the start of this phase in a random order.

== Declare Attackers Step ==

* If the focused player controls no planeswalkers and is not protecting a battle the raid controls, the boss will attack the focused player with itself and all able creatures.
* Bosses may attack as if they were creatures.
* If the focused player controls one or more planeswalkers or are protecting one or more battles the raid controls, follow the steps below to determine how the raid boss and the creatures it controls will attack:
** First, for the raid boss and each creature it controls, roll a six-sided die (D6). On a result of a 5 or 6 the raid attacks the focused player. Otherwise, it will attack the planeswalker or battle.
*** The die used for this check may change based on additional costs.
** Second, if the focused player controls two or more of any combination of those and/or battles, number each of them, then for the raid boss and each creature it controls, and roll a die to determine which of those planeswalkers or battles they will attack.
* Example A:
** It is the boss’s turn during the declare attackers step.
** The focused player controls a planeswalker, Ajani, the Greathearted with eight (8) loyalty counters.
** The boss controls three creatures that are able to attack this turn, an Alpha Myr, a Dross Crocodile, and an Imperial Outrider.
** First, to determine what each creature will attack, the boss rolls a six-sided die (D6) for each creature that is able to attack this turn.
*** For the Alpha Myr the result was six (6) so it is declared to attack the focused player.
*** For the Dross Crocodile the result was four (4) so it is declared to attack Ajani, the Greathearted.
*** For the Imperial Outrider the result was three (3) so it is declared to attack Ajani, the Greathearted.
** There are no more creatures to declare as attackers so priority passes to the active player following the standard process for the declare attackers step.
* Example B:
** It is the boss’s turn during the declare attackers step.
** The focused player controls a planeswalker, Dack Fayden with one (1) loyalty counter, and is protecting two battles, one the boss controls, an Invasion of Alara, and one the boss doesn’t control, an Invasion of Eldraine.
** The boss controls three creatures that are able to attack this turn, a Looming Altisaur, a Quilled Slugwurm, and a Tolarian Scholar.
** First, to determine what each creature will attack, the boss rolls a six-sided die (D6) for each creature that is able to attack this turn.
*** For the Looming Altisaur the result was three (3) so it will be declared to attack a planeswalker or battle the boss controls which the focused player is attacking.
*** For the Quilled Slugwurm the result was one (1) so it will be declared to attack a planeswalker or battle the boss controls which the focused player is attacking.
*** For the Tolarian Scholar the result was six (6) so it will be declared to attack the focused player.
** Second, to determine which planeswalker the focused player controls or battle the boss controls will be attacked, the boss numbers each of those objects.
*** In no particular order, the boss assigns numbers one (1) through three (3) to the Dack Fayden and numbers four (4) through six (6) to the Invasion of Alara. The boss doesn’t assign numbers to the Invasion of Eldraine because it does not control it and doesn’t want to help its controller defeat it.
** Third, for each creature to be declared an attacker of each of those objects,the boss rolls a die and declares that creature to attack the object based on the result.
*** For the Looming Altisaur the result was two (2) so it will be declared to attack the Dack Fayden.
*** For the Quilled Slugwurm the result was two (2) so it will be declared to attack the Dack Fayden.
** There are no more creatures to declare as attackers so priority passes to the active player following the standard process for the declare attackers step.

== Declare Blockers Step ==

* When the boss is the defending player, it will roll dice to determine which creatures will block followed by which attacking creatures they will block.
* Bosses do not block.
* Creatures with the defender keyword ability always block.
** Bosses cannot declare creatures with defender as assisting blockers. See Declaring Assisting Blockers.
* For each creature without defender, follow the steps below to determine how it will block:
** First, for each creature the boss controls, roll a six-sided die (D6). On a result of one (1) through four (4), the creature will block. Otherwise, it will not block.
*** The die used for this check may change based on additional costs.
** Second, for each creature the boss controls, number all attacking creatures that it is able to block then roll a die to determine which creature among those creatures it blocks.
*** If a creature the boss controls is able to block multiple creatures, roll an additional die for each creature it could block.
** Finally, repeat the second step for any illegally assigned blockers.
*** Typically, this would occur if not enough creatures are assigned to block such as with menace or Rampaging Ceratops.
* Example A:
** It is a player’s turn during the declare blockers step after they’ve attacked the boss.
** The boss controls three (3) untapped creatures, an Armored Pegasus, a Hexplate Golem, and a Harrier Naga.
** The player attacked with four (4) creatures, a Grizzled Outrider, a Gluttonous Zombie, a Bog Imp, and a Carrion Screecher.
** First, to determine which creature will block, the boss rolls a six-sided die (D6) for each creature that is able to block this turn.
*** For the Armored Pegasus the result was six (1) so it will block.
*** For the Hexplate Golem the result was five (4) so it will block.
*** For the Harrier Naga the result was six (3) so it will block.
** Second, to determine which creatures will be blocked by the blocking creatures, the boss sees two special requirements for blocking in flying and fear.
*** Among all of the special requirements, flying has the most attackers, so the boss will address them first. There are two attackers with flying, but Armored Pegasus is the only creature with flying or reach able to block. In order to determine which creature it will block, it assigns the numbers one (1) through three (3) to the Bog Imp and four (4) through six (6) to the Carrion Screecher.
**** The result was three (3) so the Armored Pegasus will block the Bog Imp.
*** Second to flying, only one attacker has fear. The attacker with fear is Gluttonous Zombie. The boss controls only one creature, the Hexplate Golem, which can block it so it will.
** Third, the boss will determine which remaining creatures that are able to block will block the remaining unblocked creatures with no special requirements.
*** The Grizzled Outrider is the only remaining unblocked attacking creature and it can block the Harrier Naga so it will.
** Notably, the Carrion Screecher will go unblocked.
* Example B:
** Not enough blockers assigned

== Combat Damage Step ==

* When assigning combat damage, the boss will choose a random creature from among the creatures it must assign combat damage to and assign all damage until it assigns lethal damage if possible. If there is excess damage to assign, it will repeat this process.
